Before I Got An Owner Part 1
I will tell a little of what I remember of my life before I got my furever home. As far as I know I was a street dog. I was found one cold day in October or November. I didn’t keep track of months until I was at the shelter. I was picked up and drove to a shelter in Ohio. I was pretty dirty and probably smelled pretty bad. The people handling me jotted down what they saw: A medium, underweight, blackish white dog with brown eyes and defiantly a mix mutt of some kind. I don’t think I really wanted to go with them. But, when you are homeless dog and trapped I didn’t have no where else to go. So, they put me in a cage and we drove back to the shelter. Upon arrival I placed into a waiting area to be checked out by what they called a vet. I nervous, shy, scared and didn’t know what was going on around me. Next thing I know hands lifted me on to a very cold table. I was prodded, poked at and tugged at. Every inch of me they checked out. Apparently while they were handling me, my fur felt kind of slick to them. They told someone to give me a bath after my examination. After checking me from head to tail, they were satisfied with they found out. I was underweight and only needed a medical care. Before heading off to the bath, they gave me some shots. Now it was time for a bath, my least favorite thing. They placed me in a tub and proceeded to wash every inch of me. Dirt and grime began to come off. I, of course shook when given the opportunity to tell the people washing how I felt. After rinsing me, they dried me with a towel. After a blow dry, I was clean as a whistle. The people at the shelter were also shocked. For instead of black and white dog. I was a white with lightest coloring of brown or creme brulee. The black stuff I found out later was some type of oil I had gotten into. Then I was given a name, a number tag collar and walked down to a cage as other dogs where barking up a storm at me the new arrival. I will not get into what they talked about. But, it pretty much like; “Hey look, at the new inmate” or “Don’t worry, they will feed you better here than the streets” or “There is no way to escape this place, I have tried”. All that barking made me scared and didn’t want to walk down the aisle. But, I was forced down the aisle to a cage and placed inside. I was now stuck here. Days went by and I got into a routine. Care takers came took me outside in morning to do business. Then breakfast and some alone time trying to sleep in cage. They also took us for play time and get to know us better. I struggled in trusting them since I wasn’t raised by humans for who know how long. Then there is the time in the cage watching as people from every walks of life stroll down the aisle and peek into each cage. I found out if they liked you, a handler would get you and put you in a waiting room to check out these potential owners. Being shy and probably not right up against the cage I wanted to invisible hoping they pass me by. It was crazy when these people would show up. The whole place erupted into crazy barking. Then later another time out, feeding and TLC time. Then before the human handlers went home they would take us out again. Every time I was out of the cage I tried to find a place to escape but they kept eagle eye out, so couldn’t find away to leave. I began to loose hope that someone would adopt me. I knew I was quiet and a lot of people looked at the dogs either barking or jumping up on the cage doors.

My name is Chelsey. I am a 50lb, mix mutt of German Shepherd/Akita/Chow-chow. I am quiet and shy around new people and places. I am model but not professionally yet. I love to help my owner write and take photos. (Note from owner: Chelsey recently passed away Nov.19th 2018)
